The Ps has been in operation fo long with four camps under its jurisdiction. This is one of the busiest PS of the district catering to an area around 211 sq km. The PS is under the supervision of Dy.SP (D&T). There are 23 gram panchayats and three development blocks i.e Bishnupur – I, Bishnupur – II, and B.D.O. T.M. The PS is surrounded by Magrahat PS, Usthi PS, Falta PS, Nodakhali PS, Budge Budge PS, Maheshtala PS, Thakurpukur PS, Regent Park PS, Sonarpur PS & Baruipur PS. The PS is mainly connected with Kolkata through regular bus service. The total population in the area falling under the jurisdiction of the PS is 4,74,676 (Male- 2,42,511 & Female – 2,32,165). The population has about 67% Hindus, 26% Muslims and 7% Christians. The PS jurisdiction is bifurcated by the NH117 and regular motor accidents occur due to the congested road. The village roads are mainly brick soled with water logged fields on either side. The remote places are accessible through only two and three wheelers. The Baro Kachari temple is famous for pilgrim congregation on Tuesdays and Saturdays. In the month of April, the religious festival at Jayarampur attracts lakhs of pilgrims. There are a good number of industries functioning under the PS jurisdiction. Some of them are Century Ply Board India Ltd, Gopal Hosieries Ltd, Green Ply Industries, Hada Textiles and Paharpur Cooling Towers. The main source of income in this area is by labour in industries and small scale business. As this area is close to Kolkata, it also serves as low cost accommodation for those working in the capital. Bishnupur PS area is infamous for illicit liquor distillation and the proactive steps taken by the police have brought down the distillation considerably.
